Remember Fr. Dan Glass
| |
Father Gerard Senecal, OSB, ‘47 shared this memory of Father Dan Galas, ’49, retired priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha, who passed away September 2, 2008. “ Dan was a freshman at Maur Hill when I was a junior. He was fearless in tackling the biggest fellow on the football field, who at the time was Jim Berning, ’46. On one occasion, Dan was put into the game playing for Maur Hill at Amelia Earhart Stadium, Atchison. Dan tackled a large fellow and the encounter knocked him out. Later that evening, all the rest of us were eating in the Maur Hill dining room. The infirmary, where Dan had been taken, was upstairs. From below, we heard the sound of someone running down the hallway upstairs and then there was a loud crash. Upon going up there, we found Dan had gotten out of bed, ran down the hallway, and tackled the statue of the Blessed Mother, breaking the statue into many pieces. Dan was sleep walking and still playing football!” |
