April Application process should have been completed with the school having all necessary documents for consideration.
  Acceptance packets including I-20 will be sent to those accepted into MH-MA, after their intentions to attend MH-MA are confirmed by submitting the $500 deposit.

Travel Schedule
2008-2009

Use Kansas City Airport (MCI). MH-MA will transport students to and from the airport when arrival and departures are scheduled appropriately with our school calendar, handbook, and travel rules. Scheduling early departures or late arrivals that conflict with the school calendar, summerized below, is not allowed. Departures and arrivals at the Kansas City International Airport (MCI) should take place between 9AM - 9PM, or as otherwise noted specifically in the below dates.
August 14th Residency Centers open for students to begin arriving (Arrive at Kansas City International Airport, where we will meet and bring you to campus)
August 16th Registration Day / ALL International students must arrive by today
August 17th First day of classes (Students not in attendance will begin losing points in their classes.)
August 19th All International students take English Proficiency exam
November 25th Thanksgiving break begins at 3pm (flights can be scheduled to depart 6pm and after)
November 30th Travelers report back to campus by 7pm. Book flight accordingly
December 19th End of Semester (Start of Winter Break - Students may begin departing today after 3pm) (Residency Centers are closed during this break only)
December 21st Last day to depart campus, Residency Centers close today
January 3rd Residency Centers reopen for the Spring Semester and students return to campus
January 5th ALL students must report to campus by 7pm today. Book flight accordingly.
January 6th First day of 2nd Semester
March 13th End of 3rd quarter (Start of Spring Break - Students may begin departing today after 3pm) (Students may stay in residency centers during break)
March 23rd Students report to residency centers by 7pm today. Book flight accordingly.
March 24th Classes resume (Students not in attendance will begin losing points in their classes.)
April 10th Easter Weekend (No class today, 4 day break begins)
April 13th Students report back to campus by 7pm Book flight accordinly.
April 14th Classes resume (Students not in attendance will begin losing points in their classes.)
May 17th Graduation Ceremony (concludes Senior's studies at MH-MA)
May 20th Last day of school (May depart after 5pm today as it is a half day)
May 22nd Last day to depart campus, Residency Centers close today for summer break


Overview

Maur Hill - Mount Academy in Atchison, KS provides quality education to students from around the world. As a Catholic boarding and day school, students will experience a safe and caring learning environment along with a structured residential program.

Maur Hill - Mount Academy is a co-educational, college preparatory institution. Students come from the Atchison area, around the US and from many different countries, representing a variety of cultures and religions. International students have many opportunities to live and learn with American classmates and roommates.

School and Residence Centers
Our academic facilities are located on a beautiful 150 acre campus. Both the academic and boarding facilities are modern and fully heated and air-conditioned. On campus there is a residency center for girls and another one for the boys. Both residence centers have lounges, kitchens, recreational rooms, snack areas, laundry facilities, computer rooms and storage rooms.

In the girls' residence center, the students have their own room, where as the boys rooms are larger and share a room. In both residences each student has a bed, dresser, desk, and closet that are all provided.

Activities
Activities after school and on weekends usually include swimming, volleyball, basketball, weight lifting, soccer, golf driving range, baseball, arts and crafts, skateboarding, music lessons, plays, concerts, movies, bowling, tours of museums, shopping trips. On special weekends a trip to an amusement park or professional baseball game may also take place.

Uniforms
At MH-MA all students wear a school uniform. The cost of the uniform for International students is included in the cost of tuition, and the school will see to it that each student receives that uniform. Students wear collared shirts with the MH-MA logo with khaki pants, and girls are allowed to wear skirts that are provided through our uniform company as well. Dress code information can be found in the student handbook, and all students will be required to follow.


Student Spending Account
For the convenience of the parents, the school operates a money checkout system. The money is deposited with the school's business office and may be withdrawn weekly.


International Programs
An international student at Maur Hill - Mount Academy is defined as a non-US resident student who requires an I-20 to attend school in the US. Upon arrival, all international students are tested for English proficiency to determine class placement.

There are several program options available to international students, as explained below.

1.  High School Diploma Program
(August – May)
Full year $24,500 
Semester $13,500
A college preparatory curriculum offered for grades 9-12 is available to international students meeting the English proficiency requirements. Students in this program must meet all graduation requirements to be awarded a diploma. 2.  8th Grade Program
(August – May)
Full year $24,500 
Semester $13,500
A Catholic school curriculum offered for 7th and 8th grade is available to international students meeting the English proficiency requirements (see ESL Policy page). Students in this program will board at MH-MA, but will attend classes at Atchison Catholic Elementary School. ACES is our local Catholic day school. Students will be bused over to ACES after breakfast and will attend classes in a regular 7th and 8th grade curriculum setting. These classes can be revalidated for credit in the student’s own country.

3.  English as a Second Language Program
(August – May)
Full year $24,500 
Semester $13,500
English as a Second Language programs are available on full-year, semester and short term basis, as explained below. International students who wish to learn or increase their proficiency in English are tested upon arrival and then placed in 1 of 3 levels of instruction. A certificate of completion is awarded to the student at the end of the program. Courses are taught in the following areas: vocabulary keyboarding listening reading composition/writing survey of literature grammar conversation chorus physical education/health. 4.Summer 2008 Program

Summer $4,200  
The summer ESL program is designed to give students an immersion experience in English. Classes are conducted fromin the fully air-conditioned academic building. Each weekend and some weekday evenings, there are additional cultural and recreational activities planned in and around the Atchison and Kansas City areas. This program gives the students and opportunity to learn about the local culture and customs as well as to use their conversational English. See summer school attachment.

  6. School will review and make decision on applicant

If accepted, family will be notified, and step 7 continues the process.

  1. Confirm students intentions of attending by submitting $500 deposit. (Deposit refunded if visa is denied.)
  2. School can then issue I-20, acceptance letter, and other documents to assist student in obtaining student visa. A registration packet will also be sent for families to complete and studnet can bring to the school.
  3. Tuition is due on August 1st.
  4. When student arrives to campus, the deposit becomes the student's security deposit.
